Sílvia Cavelti was born in Zurich in 1942. Between 1959 and 1962, she studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Zurich where she studied with Johannes Itten. Silvia was working as a stylist for big companies like Globus and ABM in Switzerland, and for several large textile companies in France as a designer. In 1989 Silvia moved to the Algarve, where she now works.

“I like geometric shapes. Discipline is very important to me. Colours are for me like classical music and classical music has a mathematical basis. So I feel very comfortable in the shape of the Square, which means a limitation. The space inside the square is like my house. I can improvise, use different materials, no limits. I love the square, the square is a parallelogram, its sides are parallel two by two, a geometric figure that is called a square has four equal sides and four right angles of 90 degrees. The square itself is a dry figure, it does not exist in nature, it was created by man, so man can bring the square to life. I tried to recreate that with the braiding technique.”                 ______________________________________________________________

“Gosto das formas geométricas. A disciplina é muito importante para mim. As cores são para mim como a musica clássica e a musica clássica tem uma base matemática. Assim sinto-me muito confortável na forma do Quadrado, que significa uma limitação. O espaço dentro do quadrado é como a minha casa. Posso improvisar, usar materiais diferentes, sem limites.  Enamorada do quadrado. o quadrado é um paralelograma. os seus lados são paralelos dois a dois. uma figura geométrica que é denominada quadrado possui quatro lados iguais e quatro ângulos rectos de 90 graus. o quadrado em si é uma figura seca. não existe na natureza. foi criada pelo homem. assim o homem pode dar vida ao quadrado. tentei recriar isso com a técnica de entrançar.”
